LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) One of the most embarrassing losses in team history has persuaded Kansas to change quarterbacks. Coach Turner Gill announced Wednesday that redshirt freshman Jordan Webb will start on Saturday against No. 15 Georgia Tech instead of sophomore Kale Pick. Pick had beat out Webb after a long and close competition between the two during spring practice and early fall. Webb came off the bench and played the last 10 minutes of Kansas' opener Saturday against North Dakota State. A 6-3 loss was one of the most humiliating defeats in decades for the program that won the 2008 Orange Bowl, and ruined Gill's debut as Kansas coach.Read more

KANSAS CITY, Kan. —A 51-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman received a life sentence today for repeated federal drug trafficking convictions.Deborah Jackson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm while trafficking drugs, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. She admitted in her plea that her son helped her. The son, James Adam Jackson, was sentenced in March to 96 months in federal prison.The Jacksons sold methamphetamine and stored firearms at their residence in the 2700 block of Espenlaub in Kansas City, Kan., while running their drug business, Grissom said. - Ex-KU athletics official receives sentencing delay
A federal judge gave a former University of Kansas athletics official a delay in sentencing Wednesday to give him time to help prosecutors investigate a $1 million ticket scalping scam.Jason Jeffries, the school's former assistant director of ticket operations, pleaded guilty in July to misprison of a felony, essentially knowing about the scam and hiding it from authorities. Brandon Simmons, the university's former assistant athletic director for sales and marketing, pleaded guilty to the same charge.U.S. District Judge Wesley Brown delayed Jeffries' sentencing until March 7. He did not immediately rule on Simmons' request for a similar extension.Read more
